Role & responsibilities
Prof. Oleg Kolosov holds a Chair in Nanoscience at LU Physics Department focussing on nanoscale measurements of physical properties of semiconductors, low-dimensional materials, and soft matter. He served as a Director of Innovation at Silicon Valley Symyx Technologies and was a scientific advisor for Lancaster spin-off Anasys Instruments–a world leader of spectrochemical SPM, now part of Bruker. He was a PI on multiple EPSRC and EU research grants and currently leads a Graphene Flagship and UKRI Faraday Institution projects. He is a recipient of Materials for World Class Manufacturing Award, STA and JSPS Senior Fellowships (Japan), and three Royal Society Paul Instrument Fund Awards. He was the founding Director of LU Material Science Institute, and of Lancaster spin-off Materials Analysis and is a deputy chair of the SPM section of Royal Microscopical Society.
Principal investigator (PI), project lead, lead HiWiN user contact in areas – Mid-IR, 2D and advanced materials, mechanical, electrical, thermal and thermoelectric properties studies.

Dr. Rajasekhar Medapalli is currently working as a Research Fellow at the department of physics, Lancaster University. His research mainly focuses on ultrafast spectroscopy and all-optical control of (magnetic-) materials at nanometre length scale. He worked as a faculty at NIT-Andhra Pradesh, India (2019-2021) and postdoctoral researcher at Center for Memory and Recording Research, University of California San Diego, USA (2014-2019). Dr. Medapalli obtained his PhD from Institute for Molecules and Materials, Radboud University, The Netherlands. He is also a member of scientific advisory team for Navariti Innovation – an IoT based products and solutions company.
Project Research Fellow (RF), HiWiN implementation and coordination of user experiments, lead HiWiN user contact in areas – optical/terahertz spectroscopy, terahertz devices, all-optical switching, and magnetic materials.

Dr. Rostislav Mikhaylovskiy leads the ultrafast spectroscopy team at the department of physics, Lancaster University. His research interests straddle the line between magnetism and photonics and cover investigation of the mechanisms allowing ultrafast (one trillionth of a seconds and faster) coupling between light and magnetically ordered media. Particularly, He aims to reach a regime of optical writing of information in magnets with minimally possible dissipation of energy.
Co-investigator (CI), lead HiWiN user contact in areas – Terahertz, ultrafast spintronics, magnonics, and metamaterials.

Dr. Samuel Jarvis leads the Atomic Imaging and Single Atom Chemistry group at Lancaster and directs activity in the Nanoscale Materials Microscopy ‘pod’ in the ultra-low-noise Lancaster IsoLab. His research focuses on applying atomic scale imaging techniques to address major challenges in atomically precise functional 2D and 3D molecular materials. This research spans UHV molecular self-assembly, on-surface chemistry, single atom catalysts, organic thermoelectric and energy materials, 2D material heterostructures, antifouling and antimicrobial surfaces, and ultra-high resolution SPM imaging.
Co-investigator (CI), lead HiWiN user contact in areas – surface science, molecular electronics, and self-assembly.

Dr. Nigel J. Fullwood is a biophysicist using advanced imaging techniques including SPM, XRD, Raman and FT-IR imaging, confocal and cryo-microscopy. On former EPSRC project, he developed a highly successful photothermal imaging/spectroscopy of biomaterials. He has over 100 publications with an h-index of 40 and has authored Nature Protocols guides on IR and Raman spectroscopy.
Co-investigator (CI), lead HiWiN user contact in areas – biological and biomedical studies, stem cells, cornea and collagen tissues, and in-vitro biological models.
